Challenge

Following a devastating explosion at their Texas City refinery, BP urgently needed to enhance safety measures to accurately track personnel locations in real-time during emergencies. The refinery's extensive size, combined with dense metal structures and erratic WiFi signal penetration, posed significant challenges in tracking hundreds of employees across the site. Additional complexities included maintaining equipment with short battery life and ensuring all tracking data adhered to stringent safety and privacy protocols within highly sensitive areas.

 

Solution

To address this, BP utilized Tamazari to implement a comprehensive employee tracking system.

We facilitated the integration of MSSI’s ultra-short burst emitters within employee badges, and paired them with a geo-fencing application from IBM and Cisco's wireless receivers to manage and triangulate location data effectively. This system not only allowed for precise monitoring of personnel movements within the refinery but also ensured that all safety zones and restricted areas were maintained. The system’s successful pilot underscored Tamazari’s capability to handle complex logistical and technical challenges.
